Biography

R. James Healy was born in the North of England. He grew up immersed in art, television, and electronic music during the heyday of home computing. His experiments with the Commodore Amiga personal computer ignited a passion for animation. This led him to the National Centre for Computer Animation (UK), where he attained a BA (Hons) in Computer Animation and Visualisation.

Following graduation, Healy collaborated with major visual effects studios in the UK, Canada, and the USA. He contributed to a wide range of productions, including commercials, music videos, and feature films. As a CG and VFX supervisor, his work has been recognized with a D&AD Pencil and a British Animation Award.

Healy's short films have been featured in publications such as Creative Review and Stash. They have screened at international festivals, including SIGGRAPH, OneDotZero, and Prix Ars Electronica. His music video for Clark (Warp Records) won the inaugural Radar Festival.

In 2022, Healy began developing his artistic practice, often combining VFX processes with 3D printing. His works include 3D zoetropes and sequential sculptures. His artworks Made in Strathcona and 20 GOTO 10 were featured in this Houdini Connect episode.
